The Music Box Makes A Comeback In 3D-Printing
The term ‘make your own music’ has never been more possible.
Old fashioned music boxes have made a comeback through the new technology of 3D-printing. Now you can listen to your favorite tunes with a new service from Left Field Labs called Music Drop.
The colorful gadgets crank out 16 notes, which are created on a computerized grid. Each square represents a different note, which is then converted into a WebGL file that can be used for a 3D-printer.
“We are all about using technology to help humans be, well, more human, and so we updated this small device with some of the emerging technologies of our time,” said Left Field Labs in a recent article on CNET. “We wanted to create a modern day adaptation to put tech and cheer right in your hand.”
The end result of the music box is a drop shape, which amplifies the sound better. There has been such a large demand for this new 3D-printed gadget that the company has had to post-pone orders for now, but check back with them for any future updates. You can check out the company’s website here.
