Surprise! One of our most used social media platforms is making big changes in the way it looks.
What’s the new look?
Twitter is going to start looking rather like another social media favorite – Facebook!
As the use of images has become more prevalent in social media, with this new look Twitter users will start seeing a more showcased version of their profiles soon that will highlight this. With a limited release to high profiles like celebrities and politicians initially, all new Twitter accounts will start out with this new profile look as well.
The larger more focused design will bring a fresh look to the network. Here is an overview of how this will look on your profile. Let’s take a look at the First Lady, Michelle Obama’s Twitter page:
As you can see, the new image will span across the screen and becomes more of a focal point for followers.
Twitter Thinks Outside Of The Box With New Profile Design
Now Twitter will show both your Tweets, Retweets and Replies along with a Lists category and number of photos and videos tweeted:
Notice also that the profile photo is larger and the description more prominent. Currently Twitter has not provided specific sizes for images, but new profiles like this one should provide a good gauge of what to create for your brand or company.
What is the influence for Twitter’s sudden change? In a recent article on Engadget the large profile images on Google Plus are a possible inspiration with Twitter providing a similar look and feel. The article also compares the revamped Twitter profiles with the new Facebook timelines which is what it most reminds me of.
There are several other new features Twitter has added in their recent blog post about the roll out. Here’s the things you will start seeing on your profile:
• High engagement tweets – This content will now be larger, and easier to find.
• Choose your best with pinned tweets – Help identify your brand with this new option where users will be able to pin their best tweet at the top of the page.
• New timeline options – Customize what you would like to see on Twitter profiles such as images, videos, and retweets.
Stay tuned for the public release phase of the new Twitter profiles in the coming weeks. The date is not official yet while this new look is still being test on top accounts but keep your eye out for changes on your profile.

I like the images being added… but OMG, save us from the limitations and mutations of FB. I’m a Twitter, with over 41,000 on my two: @AuthorU and @MyBookShepherd. What attracts me is he efficiency of Twitter and Speed. For me, FB has become a waste of my time.
Facebook is becoming the new Google Judith, controlling who sees what which is a concern. I do believe though that each of us gravitate to different media based on our style of communication – and, where out client base resides. It’s all about finding your water cooler. It looks like you have found yours – kudos!
