Responsive Web Design and Online Success
Responsive web design is clean, avoids canonical URL issues, and problems with redirects. Separate mobile “friendly” sites are often not updated regularly so if you pick just one site and use responsive design it gets updated often, therefore indexed more often. Google likes mobile friendly sites, in particular responsive designs. Because of this, and because Google is still the most popular search engine it’s something you have to pay attention to if you want SEO practices to work.
Reason #1 -Responsive Design Looks Fabulous
Having a responsive design is about more than just the fact that they work on a mobile device, it’s more than that. They look and work great on any device. They load fast, they work for anyone regardless of how old their computer is, how new their computer is, or the size of their screens. They simply look great and work great, which is a very important element for any website to have if you want to keep customers once they click through from a search results page.
Reason #2 – Responsive Web Designs Are Easier to Manage
It was mentioned that in the “old days” one would create both a mobile friendly site, plus a regular site. That’s old news. It’s too hard to keep up with two sites; you could have issues with duplicate content, and who wants to update two sites anyway when you don’t even have to do that. You can create one, beautiful, efficient website in which to house all your content, products and services and it will work great for everyone no matter what device they use.
Reason #3 – The Future is Already Here
Some people think they should wait it out, and build for what’s going on right now but nothing could be further from the truth. A business owner should always be looking forward to the next “thing” the next issue the next chance to make an impact on their customers and potential customers. Today it might be responsive design, next year it may be something entirely different. Staying relevant means that the future is already here. You need to stay informed and change before you’re forced and you’ll always be ahead of the pack.
Finally, realize that as technology changes and mobile becomes dominant (and there is indication that’s already happened) if you want to stay competitive you will have no choice but use responsive web design to stay connected with your customers, get new leads, and to stay competitive.
Reason #4 – It’s Mandatory
In today’s online business world, a website that isn’t mobile friendly could be the kiss of death for your business. It used to be that you wanted to create a mobile website and a “regular” website. But, now you want to create one website that works on any browser, accessed with any device no matter if it’s a smartphone, tablet or a computer. After all, what could be worse than showing up on page one of Google Search only for your potential customer to click through and not be able to use your site?
Wait till you see a recent redesign of a website where we kept these tips in mind (coming soon). We’ll show you the results, and then you can be the judge!
