New Buy Buttons for Instagram and Pinterest – Coming Soon
Social media is changing once again with a new buy button recently announced by two large networks: Instagram and Pinterest.
What does this mean for brands and businesses?
You better get focused on your mobile marketing strategy!
Let’s dive deeper and explore what each platform will offer both brands and customers.
Instagram’s Direct Response Strategy
The global reach and size of this growing social network makes advertising very attractive to brands and businesses. Instagram is no longer just for teens and young adults, but it is increasingly appealing to a larger age demographic of 16 to 64 according to a study by Global Web Index:
Since the launch of sponsored ads by Instagram a year and a half ago the platform has decided to upgrade to an “action-oriented” format that will encourage users to make purchases. Here’s a snapshot from Instagram on what this will look like:
This announcement came after Instagram announced a Nielsen brand study, which revealed that “across more than 400 campaigns measured globally with Nielsen Brand Effect, ad recall from sponsored posts on Instagram was 2.8x higher than Nielsen’s norms for online advertising.”
The new Instagram advertising upgrade will allow brands to better focus on the needs and desires of their target market. And the best news of all is that Instagram will become integrated with Facebook Ads in the coming months with a select group of Facebook Marketing Partners.
Pinterest’s New Buyable Pins Button
If your brand or business is not taking full advantage of this powerful social network now is the time to make that happen. According to a study by Shopify sales are the highest here with an average of $50 per order, and 93% of users are searching for products to buy. The study also points out that mobile sales alone from Pinterest have increased by 140% in the U.S. during the last couple of years.
Pinterest has been paying attention to the conversations of its users on its platform and on social media. There has been a growing demand from consumers for a buy button, and recently the platform made their announcement for the upgrade.
Users will soon begin to see a blue button on the top right of their Buyable Pins:
The new format will also allow for brands and businesses to customize selections for their customers, like this example from Pinterest:
The plan is to roll out the new buy button options in the next few weeks for iOS users in the United States. Demandware will be offering the service for brands and businesses to take advantage of this new form of advertising.
Currently the new advertising and purchase upgrades for Instagram and Pinterest appeal more to those selling products rather than services, which can be a great way to promote your book or brand offerings no matter what the size your business may be.
