Who is Susan Gilbert?
Biography
Susan Gilbert has been marketing online since the release of her first book, The Land of I Can. It was the first indy published book (and a gift book at that) which went to #1 on Amazon. That’s #1 overall, not in a category.
Private Life
Susan loves rural living, her miniature horses, two Yorkshire Terriers, two Standard Poodles and eight chickens as much as she loves her work with clients helping them create their next level lives.
Motivations
She is inspired to help others to take chances and live their passions. When she plays any small part in assisting someone else, she is motivated to keep the alchemy flowing. It is music to her ears when someone says, “I’m so glad I found you!”.
Hi, I’m Susan.
I’m a Pittsburgh, PA-born, San Diego transplant turned businesswoman, who left it all behind for rural living east of Seattle, WA (Issaquah) where I share my home and work spaces with fur and feathered friends.
When I’m not sitting in front of a computer or on a Zoom call, I volunteer as a Reading Buddy at the local elementary school; and, can often be found reading a 500+ page historical fiction tome in front of a cozy fire.
I’ve been a successful entrepreneur in endeavors ranging from building a computer sales organization (twice), ditching it all to become a multi-location cafe owner from scratch, then a highly successful author, and digital marketing maven to brand strategist – which makes me a serial entrepreneur.
But what if I told you that my clients don’t call me brand specialist, but an alchemist? An alchemist with the unique ability to help people elevate to their highest level and guide them in writing the book they will be remembered for.
Transforming Fear into Forward Motion
An adventurer at heart, there were times before trying something new when I questioned myself asking, “Can I do this?”
Learning to fly and then purchasing a Cessna 182 was one of many freedoms from that fear. I have never felt so alive and empowered as being in the air, by myself, in my own plane, knowing that I alone controlled my destiny in that moment.
On the ground, I had wanted to walk the 500-mile Camino de Santiago for many years and for quite a while, thought that time had passed me by. Till finally, as I grappled with reaching a pivotal point of years spent on this planet, I stared age in the face and chose to make this dream a reality.
In 2016 I completed the ‘Walk’ in a quite comfortable five weeks with ease – no blisters, no pain, just pure joy. I kicked ‘age’ to the curb. For all the times I thought I couldn’t, it was a far easier and more deeply fulfilling experience than I could ever have imagined. My ‘can do’ mindset had once again gotten me to the finish line coupled with commitment and training.
I’m thankful that the fear of time was not a stopping point to what was an unforgettable life adventure where I experienced my own two legs carrying me the full distance – amazing! No plane, no car, no train, required – just my desire to make this a reality.
Be Seen, Be Heard
I’ve never been one to ‘toot’ my own horn. As a Cafe owner, I used to refer to our success stories by saying, “We did x-y-z”. When asked who the “We” was, I replied, “It was my staff and me”. I liked being the creator and putting together teams and systems that worked, never needing to be in the spotlight.
As the digital age unfolded, and competition noise increased online, I was fortunate to be on the leading edge of social media as an early adopter both being seen and heard online. I became visible – no shouting required.
Today, I support other aspiring business owners, coaches and authors, by walking the talk – personally reaching others across the world as a Top 100 Marketing Influencer in 2017 along with Seth Godin and Gary Vaynerchuk; as well as, being named one of the Top Women in Digital Marketing.
The Success Trap
From the outside, most people would think I had achieved total success. My work was thriving by truly helping people. I had built a great reputation in the marketplace, lived on a beautiful equestrian property, flew my own Cessna 182, traveled the world, etc.
Don’t get me wrong, I was (and still am) extremely grateful and appreciative for everything I had, but I just wasn’t totally happy.
Maybe you’ve experienced the same thing….
Perhaps you’ve already “made it” but realize there’s something more.
